Stepping Into a New Chapter

It has been over a week since our last post, however, Alex needed to finish some homework before being able to give attention to anything else. Plenty of things have happened that are worth writing about, however if we wrote about all of them, everyone would refuse to read our blog again. No one wants to read novels about our life - it's not that exciting!

Let's see, first things first: Alex finished up her undergraduate career at the University of Arkansas and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Latin American & Latino Studies! More on that later, in a blog to follow. We have some catching up to do! This year, the Athletic Department and Student-Athletic Advisory Committee put on an awards show for student athletes that mimics the ESPN ESPY awards: The Hogspys. The awards ceremony was located in the Fayetteville Town Center and was hosted by ESPN analyst and UA alum, Jimmy Dykes! It was wonderfully decorated, there was a red carpet, interviews, pictures. It went pretty well for the inaugural Hogspys!  After the main awards (rookie of the year, female/male athlete of the year, etc) senior awards were handed out, and each senior was awarded a frame for our dimplomas! Seniors also received their senior gift (ring) and a stole to graduate in!

Friday night (the 4th), we volunteered with Laundry Love (a program with Kamp Laundry in South Fayetteville that provides dinner and money for those who attend!). This was our first time doing Laundry Love, and had no idea what to expect! Overall it was an experience we will never forget. Hunter entertained the kids by playing soccer with them (go figure) at the beginning and spent the latter half of the night with 2 guys: Robert, a homeless man living out of his car, and Troy, a 60 year old veteran living on disability after breaking his back a few years ago. Alex spent most of her time putting in quarters, folding laundry, and squeegee-ing the floor when it would flood from certain washers. Surprisingly, a few of our friends showed up (unplanned) so we had a great time! Plus, there was a rainbow! Woo hoo! Following the laundry doing, Hunter and I decided to grab some Chick-Fil-A and ran into Brian and Megan! They also went to Laundry Love, but we hadn't planned to grab dinner together.

The next morning, we helped a couple from our community group (Jon and Kayla Knox) move into their new home! Hunter, Alex, Brian and a few other couples helped load the Knox's belongings into a trailer and headed over to their new home in downtown Rogers. They have such a cute house, and we don't really want to put up a picture of their house for their privacy, but we will put up a picture of their super cool wood burning stove/heater thing, which we're not sure what the real name is but it's definitely old-timey. We also caught Brian outside eating nectar out of honeysuckles, so we snapped a picture to show you exactly what we're talking about!

The next few days consisted of Alex finishing up some papers and tests for her classes, and her cleaning out the flower bed - trimming bushes, trees, mulching, and everything that comes with gardening! Needless to say, she was awfully sore and now has some bad tan lines after all that!

Make sure you check back with us over the next few days as we put up posts of Alex's graduation and surprise trip to Eureka Springs!

Carefully pull the stem out of the bottom of the flower and then eat! Yes, put it up to your mouth and eat the nectar off the flower! It just tastes like sugar water, sorta.

Their ... heater? Isn't it cute?
