Graduations and Getaways!
Greetings from Fayetteville! Not sure how the weather is wherever you may be, but it has not rained here in what feels like months! Today there are up to 30 mph winds. Wow.
Over the last 2 weeks, we have attended several milestones! May 12th was Alex's graduation from the University of Arkansas! Alex's grandparents, parents and siblings drove down from St. Louis for the weekend! Needless to say, it was a bit cozy in our house, BUT it was one of the most fun weekends of the year! Graduation day started off more active than most of our days. Hunter, Alex's dad and brother went to the golf course and enjoyed an overcast, 65 degree Saturday morning round of 9 holes! Alex, her mom and their foreign exchange student, Rodrigo, went to the Kendrick Fincher 5k run in Rogers, AR. Alex and her mom both got top 3 in their age groups, and therefore won a medal!
Graduation proved to be one of the most boring events we have attended. The backdrop curtains were beautiful, however nothing could save us from the 2 hour and 10 minute ceremony. 10 minutes were used for a student and the dean of Fullbright College to give their speeches, and the other 2 hours consisted of all 800+ graduates receiving their diplomas. Lucky (not) for Alex, her major's department was World Languages and was therefore literally, 8th from the end. Once graduation was over, Hunter's family joined Alex's family for dinner at the House residence! Alex's mom and dad, Nicole, Alex and Hunter all prepared dinner for the family, and enjoyed the beautiful weather! There was frisbee and football throwing while the girls and grandparents relaxed on the front lawn. Such a refreshing time for everyone!
The next morning, we all went to church and then to Lucy's Diner in Rogers! This was mother's day and a great way to celebrate our thankfulness for Alex's mom and grandma! The family headed home to St. Louis, and we headed over to see Lilah (Hunter's niece) to be dedicated! She was so good on stage too!
As a graduation present for Alex, Hunter planned a small 2-day trip to Eureka Springs, AR! We had never been to Eureka Springs before, but we will definitely be returning! The town is quaint, artsy, kinda eery, however it is where Hunter found his love for antique shopping. We stayed at the Arsenic & Old Lace Bed and Breakfast! We absolutely loved this b&b and would recommend it to everyone who wants to visit Eureka Springs!
The next event worth noting is the wedding of Taylor Hall and Hayley (now Hall) Holmgren! It was in Tulsa, OK and was one of the most beautiful yet simple weddings we have attended! Everything was decorated vintage-chic and Hayley was just stunning! We are so happy for them and excited for them as they start their lives together!! Plus, we definitely enjoyed our turn at the photo booth (picture added below).
May 22 brought a surprise for Nicole, Alex's sister, on her graduation day as we surprised her and showed up in St. Louis! Nicole is such an outgoing, fun-loving, motivated little sister (plus she gave the opening speech at her graduation) that we had to support her special day! Nicole will be attending the University of Arkansas in the fall (WPS! - Woo Pig Sooie!) and we are more than thrilled that we will only be about 20 min away!! This graduation was a million times more exciting than Alex's graduation. It was located at Chaifetz Arena on the SLU campus. The parents were recognized along with the students as they announced different GPAs, valedictorian/salutatorian, speech givers, etc. There was a teacher speaker, who the students voted on, and performances by the symphonic orchestra/band and the choir. After all 425 graduates walked across the stage, Alex's parents, siblings, Rodrigo and us all went to dinner at PF Changs. Nicole and her dad left from there for the senior lock-in, while the rest of us headed for Silky Freeze Frozen Custard. It was good!
Now, we are at home in Fayetteville, but only for a little while. This weekend Alex will be at New Life Ranch for Family Camp, Hunter will be teaching Galatians 5 in the Junior High and Senior services at Fellowship (You can catch these talk online at Fellowship's student ministry audio site), and then the two of us will head off on our vacation! We will blog along the way and post pictures of the sights we're seeing!
Thanks for stopping by!
